Undergraduate Research Experience at the Boyce Thompson Institute (BTI), Cornell University and the USDA provide an excellent opportunity to learn valuable research skills and explore if a scientific career is right for you. Currently we offer opportunities to students interested in plant genome research, bioinformatics, plant genetics, plant molecular biology, biotechnology, biological engineering, digital agriculture, plant defense, and biochemistry. Our 2022 Research Experience opportunities for Undergraduates are funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

This single application encompasses projects spanning Plant Genome Research, Bioinformatics, Programmable Plant Systems, and Innovative Agricultural Technologies.

The 2022 summer program is anticipated to begin Tuesday, May 31st and end Friday, August 5th, 2022, lasting approximately ten weeks. Selected undergraduate students will be provided a $6,000 stipend, $850 meal stipend, free group housing, and up to $500 travel reimbursement.

While we are currently recruiting students in anticipation of hosting our program in-person in Ithaca, please keep in mind that the uncertainty of the global pandemic may require changes to our program dates, lengths, and requirements. Students must be US citizen or permanent residents to apply.

Selected students will be required to be fully vaccinated from COVID-19 before May 31, or obtain a university-approved medical or religious exemption.

The deadline to submit your application form and letters of recommendation is February 4th, 2022 (11:59 PM ET).
